Alco DL-109 unit, leading Southern Railway passenger train no. 44, the Queen & Crescent, suffered a malfunction and a relief unit was needed at Meridian, Mississippi, on September 16, 1952. Veteran FT no, 4126 was coupled for the run to Birmingham, Alabama, but mechanics found incompatibilities in control systems. Thus, another unit was brought from shop.
