Lamb said, "While viewing a dismantled steam locomotive that I once photographed in operation is not a happy event, I realized that such photos also provide a significant amount of detail about parts of an engine that are seldom seen, except during building and repair. I had photographed these engines in operation between Montgomery, Alabama, and Atlanta during my college years."
