Pioneering Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway EMD F-units rest between shifts at Carlsbad, New Mexico, in August 1988. Their role was to move cuts of molten sulfur tank cars to Clovis for transfer to Houston, Texas, in long trains with mid-train helpers.
